About Ashin Osadhasara

Ashin Osadhasara was born Monywa Township, Sagaing Division on September 20, 1964 and fully ordained on February12,1984. He studied from 1977 to 1980 at Thahtonwantha monastery in Monywa, from 1980 to 1993 at New Masoeyein Monastery in Mandalay, from 1993 to 1995 at the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy in Sagaing, and from 1995 to 2003 Magadh University in India, where he earned his MA and PhD in Buddhist studies. He also has Sasanadhaja Dhammacariya degree and the Aggamaha ganthavacakapandita title.

Ashin Osadhasara was a lecturer at the New Masoeyin Monastery for seven years and a professor and prorector of Sitagu International Buddhist Academy for eight years, before beginning missionary service abroad. He spent three years in England in Europe and first came to the United States in 1999, where he served at the Sitagu Buddha Vihara in Austin until 2002 and Vezayanta Monastery in Baltimore from 2010 to 2015. In 2002 he established the Sitagu Vezayanta monastery in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Division, Myanmar. In 2013 he established two monasteries Mahosadha Pandita Monastery and Masoeyein Tawya in Hmawbi.

Sitagu Sayadaw asked Dr. Osadhasara, in view of his seniority and experience, to begin serving as abbot of the Sitagu Dhamma Vihara in April of 2015.
